A client of ours, located right outside of Matawan, NJ , is looking for a PostgreSQL Database Administrator to add to their expanding team.
Job Description:
As a PostgreSQL Database Administrator, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and optimizing our on-premises PostgreSQL databases. Your focus will be on ensuring the stability, performance, and security of our existing infrastructure while preparing for future scaling and enhancements. You will be working with a team of skilled developers and will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, who will provide hands-on training and ongoing support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Manage PostgreSQL databases on Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance, security, and reliability. Handle all aspects of the database lifecycle, from installation and configuration to monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Performance Optimization: Regularly analyze and optimize database performance, implement best practices, and make adjustments as needed to ensure efficient operation.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance of existing database infrastructure. Prepare for future enhancements, including transitioning to a clustered environment.
- Learning and Collaboration: Work closely with Manager to understand our existing systems and proprietary technologies. Engage in hands-on training for the first six months, with opportunities to handle immediate tasks and projects.
- Future Planning: Contribute to planning and scaling efforts for future infrastructure enhancements. Provide input on potential transitions to VPC environments as needed.
- Team Interaction: Collaborate with both legacy and new product teams, understanding their unique requirements and contributing to both backend and database-related tasks.
Qualifications:
- PostgreSQL Expertise: Strong understanding of PostgreSQL database management, including installation, configuration, and optimization. Experience with on-premises setups is essential.
- Linux Proficiency: Solid knowledge of Linux server management is required. Experience with managing PostgreSQL on Linux servers is a must.
- Programming Knowledge: Familiarity with reading and making basic tweaks to C code (5 million+ lines) is a significant advantage.
- Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with development teams, understanding their needs and contributing to a collaborative environment.
- Adaptability: Willingness to learn new technologies and adapt to evolving infrastructure requirements.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to work with a variety of stakeholders and provide clear updates on progress and challenges.
