The Director of Interiors and Store Planning will oversee the entire process of creating and managing curated libraries and store design projects. This role involves strategic oversight of the creative process, client negotiations, project management, and coordination with the design and project management teams. The Director will be responsible for ensuring successful project execution, from initial client engagement through final installation.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning:
- Lead and execute the long-term curated library planning strategy that aligns with Assouline’s brand vision and business objectives.
- Analyze customer insights and competitive landscape to inform store and library designs and layouts.
- Implement a comprehensive library design strategy, focusing on user experience, accessibility, and innovative service delivery.
- Work closely with Marketing, Merchandising, and Operations teams to ensure alignment of store and library design with overall brand strategy.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, internal teams, and external partners to ensure smooth project execution and client satisfaction.
Project Management:
- Oversee multiple store planning and design projects from concept through to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Manage projects related to library space design, resource acquisition, and implementation, ensuring alignment with institutional goals and user needs.
- Collaborate with Project Manager, as well as general contractors and vendors to ensure quality execution of designs.
- Act as the primary point of contact for clients, managing negotiations, project scopes, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project lifestyle.
- Lead and manage the development of curated libraries including; Negotiate terms, space requirements, and contracts with clients.
- Oversee profit and loss analysis to ensure financial success of projects
- Develop and manage budgets for store planning and design initiatives, ensuring financial efficiency and identify opportunities for cost savings.
Product Curation and Design:
- Develop and manage product assortments for curated libraries, including sourcing and curating additional items beyond the initial Assouline collection.
- Ensure that product selection algins with the client’s vision and project requirements.
- Ensure all elements of store design, including furniture, fixtures, and art, are procured and assembled to meet the highest standards.
Client and Team Coordination:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their vision and requirements are met.
- Collaborate with the design team on conceptual and design elements.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Provide guidance and support in the creative process, project management, and professional development of team members.
Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design, Architectures, or a related field; Master’s degree of professional certification preferred.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in interior design, project management, or a related field, with a focus on luxury or high-end environments.
- Proven experience in managing complex design projects from conception to completion.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with creative teams and manage client relationships effectively.
- Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge of design trends, materials, and techniques relevant to luxury interiors and curated spaces.

The appointed candidate will be offered a salary within the range of $135,000-$155,000. Please note that the foregoing compensation information is a good-faith assessment associated with this position only and is provided pursuant to the New York City Salary Transparency Law.
