Job Description:
The Lab Technician is responsible for setting up and configuring network devices, running cables, and installing hardware, such as TVs, in a lab environment. The role involves building and maintaining the infrastructure for testing, troubleshooting, and supporting various networking and device configurations. The technician will work closely with engineers, testers, and IT staff to ensure smooth operations within the lab.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and configure routers, switches, and other network devices in the lab.
- Run, terminate, and label network cables, ensuring proper connectivity and cable management.
- Troubleshoot network issues, verify connectivity
- Device Setup and Installation:
- Unpack, mount and set up devices like TVs, monitors, and other AV equipment on racks.
- Configure devices for specific test scenarios, including firmware updates, network configurations, and application installations.
- Ensure proper placement and alignment of devices for ease of access and usability during testing.
- Infrastructure Maintenance:
- Regularly inspect and maintain the lab’s physical and network infrastructure.
- Perform routine checks on cables, connections, and equipment to ensure everything is functioning optimally.
- Manage lab inventory, ensuring that all devices, cables, and network components are accounted for and in working order.
Required Skills:
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (IP addressing, routing, VLANs).
- Experience with installing and configuring network hardware (routers, switches).
- Proficiency in running and terminating Ethernet cables (CAT5e, CAT6).
- Operating knowledge of Linux.
- Basic knowledge of AV equipment setups, including mounting and configuration.
- Hands-on experience with rack-mounted devices and cable management.
- Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills.
