Position: Safety Engineer III
Location: US - Big Sandy Plant

Hours of work: Mondays - Fridays, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, 40 Hours/Week - 50% work hours in office developing JSP, training, PHA, MOC, 50% work hours out in facility conducting audits, behavior observations, addressing safety concerns and elimination of hazards
The Safety Manager III is responsible for day-to-day safety functions of assigned locations(s) and development and implementation of global safety programs and initiatives including but not limited to Process Hazard Analysis, Combustible Dust, Contractor Safety and Behavior Based Safety. This is a high visibility role where the incumbent will work directly with all levels of the organization to ensure a safe work environment and lead the development and implementation of Calgon Carbon Corporation Safety Programs. The Safety Engineer is expected to spend approximately 50% of his/her time working in the plant to assure a safe work environment and regulatory compliance. The remaining 50% of the time is spent on program development and implementation. The division of work is Assigned by the Safety Manager and will vary with operational need.
Duties and Responsibilities (not limited to)
- Develops and implements key safety programs that assures a safe work environment
- Advises site mangers in the interpretation, implementation and compliance of mandatory Federal, State and Local regulations and represents Calgon Carbon during inspections by OSHA and other authorities as needed
- Works with Domestic Manufacturing Site Managers and Safety Committees to acquire, develop, prioritize and schedule training identified as required under the Occupational Safety & Health Administration, job specific training from safety hazard assessments and general non-mandatory safety training
- Works directly with shop floor employees and local management to understand and resolve safety concerns or issues
- Implements programs to eliminate potential hazards in the work place by working closely with Domestic Manufacturing Site Managers, Facilities Engineering, Research and Development and Site Safety Committees
- Leads corporate safety standard audits and works with facilities to maintain an acceptable level of compliance
- Active member of the Global Safety Council and provides direction and assistance to all site Central Safety & Health Committees and subcommittees
- Works with Domestic Manufacturing to coordinate Industrial Hygiene surveys
- Required to facilitate Process Hazard Analysis and follow up on corrective actions
- Participates and ensures incident investigations and root cause analysis are completed timely, proper recordkeeping is maintained and effectiveness of corrective actions
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.), or equivalent from four-year college or university is required
- 5-7 years of excellent verbal and written communication skills is required
- Process Hazard Analysis is preferred
- Process Safety Management is preferred
