SUMMARY
The Sr. Engineer, Electrical & Controls will be responsible for supporting the reliable and safe operation of facility and process control systems. In close cooperation with the Operations and Maintenance Teams, this role will lead or assist troubleshooting, driving to root cause of issues and implementing corrective and preventative actions and improvements for existing assets and related electrical or control systems in either our Anderson, SC or Greenville, SC facilities.
This role will provide technical expertise and guidance on capital projects during front-end planning through equipment installation and start-up as it relates to control and automation systems as well as data analytics and digital platforms. You will review and approve contractor designs, scope descriptions, schedules, risk management approach and milestone descriptions to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery in realizing defined goals and objectives.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for the development of Controls Engineering technical design guidelines and standards as well as pertinent schematics, drawings and cGMP construction methods and materials.
- Troubleshoot PLC’s, Human Machine Interfaces, vision and data acquisition systems on new and existing production and facility / utility equipment and systems.
- Provide expertise and guidance to Operations and Maintenance to drive Process Reliability improvements.
- Coordinate with various project stakeholders, internal and external, to enable multi-discipline design coordination and compliance.
- Mentor site resources on automation and control systems.
- Provide training and technical support to Controls Technicians for automation control systems throughout the site.
- Develop calibration, preventative maintenance, work instructions, start-up and additional procedures in support of installed control systems.
- Drive standardization of common processes and solutions across multiple manufacturing locations.
- Assist in the development, review, and approval of Standard Operating Procedures and other site Good Manufacturing / Engineering Practice Standard Operating Procedures.
- Lead or support the design, installation, startup and commissioning / qualification of facility, utility and process control systems for capital projects.
- Analyze, compare, and select equipment and systems to ensure a fit-for-purpose, right-sized investment delivering optimal total cost of ownership.
- Research new technologies and procedures relative to controls systems that could be utilized to improve the business and processes.
- Propose and champion creative solutions articulating the business value created.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or 5+ years of related electrical troubleshooting and automation experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ hands on experience performing system integration and programming, developing, configuring, and troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs and SCADA systems is required.
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations including Life Safety, IBC, NFPA and OSHA.
- Prior experience working in an automated manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated and first-hand experience writing protocols, test scripts, user and functional requirements, and system design documents for automated control systems and networking equipment is preferable.
- Extensive experience designing, installing and / or servicing industrial sensors, motion control (servo systems, robotics, etc.), laser printing and vision systems, fieldbus communications and Safety PLCs is desired.
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office applications (MS Project, PowerPoint, SharePoint) and experience in reading and interpreting documents such as technical data, safety procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals is required.
- Prior experience in a Regulated industry subject to Government agency and external customer audits and inspections is strongly preferred.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley (ControlLogix, PLC5, SLC500) PLCs, PanelView HMIs, Industrial Communication Networks (Ethernet, DeviceNet, DH+, etc.) as well as other platforms including WAGO, GE and Siemens is desired.
- Experience with SCADA systems (Wonderware, Ignition), Kepware and Visual Basic / C# / Java is a plus.
