Legal Secretary Role:
The Legal Secretary will provide essential administrative support to the legal team, ensuring that the office operates efficiently and effectively.
Accurately transcribe correspondence, pleadings, discovery documents, and other legal materials.
Ensure all transcriptions are completed in a timely manner and are error-free.
Manage electronic filing of documents with Appellate, Federal, District, and County Courts.
Maintain and organize physical and electronic files related to ongoing cases.
Maintain and update calendars for meetings, trial settings, and scheduling order dates.
Coordinate and schedule appointments, depositions, and court appearances.
Work closely with attorneys and legal nurse consultants in the day-to-day handling of litigation files.
Prepare and file legal documents, including briefs, motions, and pleadings.
Assist in the preparation of trial exhibits and other trial-related documents.
Act as a liaison between clients, attorneys, and court personnel.
Draft and proofread correspondence, reports, and other documents as needed.
Perform data entry and maintain accurate timekeeping records using Timeslips.
Legal Secretary Background Profile:
Associate’s degree in Legal Studies or a related field is a plus, but not required.
Minimum of 3 years of litigation secretarial experience, preferably in medical malpractice defense or healthcare law.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook
Knowledge of other case management and legal software.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
High attention to detail and accuracy in document preparation.
Familiarity with electronic filing procedures and court systems for Appellate, Federal, District, and County Courts.
Understanding of legal terminology and court procedures.
