Job Summary:
This position is responsible for coordinating cost-effective transportation logistics and maximizing freight arbitrage of raw cotton via road, rail and ocean transport to customers in our global network. This role ensures commodities move in a timely manner to meet contractual obligations and customer needs.
Essential Job Functions:
- Coordinates movement of Raw cotton bales from the point of origin to end users
- Negotiate freight with vendors for domestic and international shipments, manages a variety of freight/warehouse bookings and international shipments.
- Responsible for minimizing storage cost through diligent scheduling of loads against all sales contracts. Includes reviewing all scheduled loads to optimize freight costs.
- Completes all day-to-day freight related tasks and resolves issues at any point of the supply chain.
- Ensures accurate data entry and system uploads including load dates, rail and port cuts for trucking and ocean freight.
- Responsible for onboarding 3PL to be in compliance with the company's policies and practices.
- Identifies, investigates, and communicates discrepancies in all 3PL invoices. Ensures unload information is received in a timely manner from carriers including tracking unloads daily.
- Develops and maintains a variety of logistics activity tools and report mechanisms. Identifies trends and anomalies and takes corrective action to logistics plans as required.
- Effective preparation and communication of inventory levels, freight capacity and commercial reports.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:
- Grade 12 or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain Management preferred.
- Minimum four (4) years experience in logistics, transportation and inventory management.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that result in the required level of knowledge skill and competence will be considered.
- Knowledge and understanding of the transportation industry is an asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF) and Cost and Freight (CFR) interco terms.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
- Ability to negotiate freight contracts and rates.
- Demonstrated planning and problem solving skills and abilities.
- Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills adhering to deadlines and ensuring accuracy.
- Advanced skills in excel and computer competent with demonstrated ability in the use of databases, communication and word processing software applications.
