Job Title: Sonographer- OB/GYN
Immediate Supervisor Title: Clinical Director, Administrator
Job Supervisory Responsibilities: None
General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for using diagnostic medical equipment to diagnose various medical conditions. The Ultrasound Technologist performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative. May specialize in obstetric/gynecologic. Breast certification is required.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Reviews patient's medical history and physician's instructions. Prepares equipment for procedure. Selects appropriate equipment settings. Explains procedure to patient and records any medical history that may be relevant to the condition being viewed.Directs the patient to move into positions that will provide the best view.
Spreads gel on the skin to aid the transmission of sound waves.
Operates special equipment to direct nonionizing, high-frequency sound waves into areas of the patient's body. The equipment collects reflected echoes and forms an image that may be videotaped, transmitted, or photographed for interpretation and diagnosis by a physician.
Views the screen during the scan, looking for visual cues that contrast healthy areas with unhealthy ones. Selects images to show to the physician for diagnostic purposes. Takes measurements, calculates values, and analyzes the results in preliminary reports for the physicians.
Keeps patient records and adjusts/maintains equipment.
Complies with safety, infection control, and quality improvement policies/procedures.
Education: High school diploma. Associate's or bachelor's degree in sonography from accredited school, with a certification in sonography. Formal training which will probably be indicated by graduation from an approved ARRT school of radiologic technology, registration with ARRT, current Mississippi State license, American Society of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) and one to two years on the job experience as an ultrasound technologist is preferred.
Experience: Minimum one or more years of experience and/or training with graduate sonographer.
Other Requirements: Certification of competency and registration through approved organizations such as the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography.

Equipment Operated: Variety of sonography equipment including ultrasound machines, transducers, gels, and computer hardware/software.
Work Environment: Combination of exam and laboratory rooms and darkroom. In some situations, may work in operating room. Sometimes works in close quarters. Exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions related to clinic settings.
Mental/Physical Requirements: May lift/turn disabled patients. Work primarily at diagnostic imaging machines involving standing, sitting, walking, bending, lifting, and reaching. Some stress related to dealing with anxious patients.
Job Types: Part-time, PRN
Pay: $32.00 - $36.00 per hour
Expected hours: 8 - 24 per week
