Director of Operations - Beauty
About the role:
This position is responsible for all production phases of the designated business unit within the Richmond Manufacturing Site. This role provides primary oversight, management, and responsibility for all human resources, equipment, materials, and product quality occurring over 24 hour operation.
What you'll do:
- Directs all activities associated with the manufacturing and packaging of products for their assigned areas of responsibility
- Ensures the timely completion of the production schedule for the production process in order to maintain necessary days of supply of finished goods to meet customer demand
- Drives and supports the implementation of process improvements for both equipment and human resource needed to maintain quality in a competitive cost structure for products produced
- Ensures compliance in a manufacturing/packaging environment with Corporate (SCI, cGMP's) guidelines, State, and Federal Requirements (FDA, OSHA, EPA) for product quality and safety
- Responsible for ensuring that equipment, employees, and means of production for manufacturing and packaging are in place and perform according to defined standards
- Develop appropriate analyses of facilities, equipment, and staff to quantify capacities, constraints, and department capabilities
- Interfaces on a daily basis with other departments including quality assurance ,planning, human resources, materials management, technical services, engineering, training, as well as site management in the areas of production ,quality and safety
- Key contributor/manager in the development of factory direction, goals, operating and capital budget, labor planning, and financial accountability
- Supports and represents Senior Director of Operations for signatory and presence during absences, delegated assignments, and scheduling conflicts
- Leading APEX Continuous Improvement Team
Financial/Asset Accountability
- Key member of the budget team providing wage/merit data for hourly workforce and exempt direct reports. Reviews annual forecasted sales deriving labor hrs. required, equipment needed, and staffing requirements to support work activities. Projects required, equipment enhancement, cost reductions, etc. drives the preparation of the capital needs.
- Responsible for overseeing the operating budget for the area of responsibility.
Our ideal candidate:
Education and experience
- BS/BA in Science, Engineering, Business, or related field. 7 to 10 years supervisory and production management experience. This position requires the education and background to support a strong focus on improvement of process and operational effectiveness
- A high degree of leadership skills including superior human relations skills: i.e. negotiation, coaching, teamwork, and communication both verbal and written. Incumbent should be an effective communicator both up and down the organizational chain.
- A high degree of technical expertise in dealing with high speed diverse mixing and packaging equipment is required.
- Must be results oriented and familiar with lean manufacturing techniques, including product costing.
- Familiarity with manufacturing in an FDA or ISO controlled environment is a must.
- Extensive experience in managing a large hourly and exempt workforce is required. It is essential the incumbent possess a strong floor presence. Background should be in the Pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in Aerosol production preferred
