Title: Utilities Operator
Location: North Chicago, IL
Hire Type: Contract-to-hire, Onsite
Target Pay Rate: $28.00 - $35.00/hour (W2 with full benefits + overtime)
Work hours: Rotating shift every 4 weeks
Job Summary:
Operates and maintains all utilities equipment and systems independently under the general supervision of the utilities group leader or utilities manager. Routinely performs and/or directs all patrol and control operator duties of the utility trainee and/or utility operator. Performs both control and patrol operator duties in rotational assignments. Specific tasks performed include all duties of the utility trainee and utility operator.
Job Duties:
- Oversee the equipment operation needed to maintain utility requirements. This includes the operation of boilers, turbines, chillers, compressors, distillation units, gauges and controls, pumps, fans, and more.
- They maintain the sanitary effluent sample stations and obtains samples for Corporate Environmental Control and North Shore Sanitary District.
- The operator oversees the Distributed Control System and makes observations to detect any equipment problems and acts to correct those problems.
- Adjusts controls to respond to requested levels, setpoints, and parameters needed.
- Inspects electrical distribution centers and machine rooms for fire, flooding, or other abnormal conditions.
- Obtains samples and conducts chemistry analyses on boiler water, tower water, condensate, potable and service water, and makes the necessary adjustments.
- Serves as the primary contact for afterhours emergencies and contacts appropriate on or off-site personnel to facilitate repairs.
- Assumes leadership role in responding to utilities emergencies.
- Able to comprehend and utilize complex manuals, drawings, etc. related to the installation/modification/maintenance of equipment and/or systems.
- Mechanical and machine component utility systems troubleshooting.
- Follow all plant and department procedures, GMPs, JSAs and general plant safety rules.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating and monitoring facility utilities (e.g., boilers, chillers, pumps, compressors, etc.).
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems and equipment, including but not limited to pumps, valves, piping, etc.
- Ability to troubleshoot and determine the cause of improper machine operation and make necessary adjustments and repairs to return to proper operation.
- Ability to perform well with minimal supervision and work well with others.
