POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Welding Coordinator provides support to the Quality team and plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficiency and quality of welding operations within a manufacturing or construction environment. This role is responsible for overseeing welding processes, coordinating with teams, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and maintaining quality control measures.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and coordinate activities of welding auditor/testers, ensuring welds are being performed according to the respective welding procedure.
- Provide training and guidance to welding personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Implement and maintain quality control measures to ensure that welding activities meet industry standards and specifications.
- Performs weld startups per ISO 3834 requirements.
- Maintain and/or prepare accurate records of welding activities, including weld maps, inspections, audits, welding procedures/PQR’s, test results, VT and MT reports, certifications, and project documentation, to facilitate traceability and compliance.
- Weld stencil issuance and verification.
- Maintains checklist database for daily welding activities.
- Maintains the weld materials and parent materials database.
- Records data from various reports (i.e., continuity logs, etc.) onto the company database
- Interfaces with other company departments to request and receive reports and information.
- Identify, create, maintain, and assist in resolving issues related to welding processes, equipment malfunction, material defects, welds outside of procedure parameters, ensuring minimal disruption to production schedules and nonconformances.
- Create and maintain NCRs and SCARs.
- Maintains and updates the calibration logs.
- Maintains all quality checklists for clients on google sheets.
- Assists the Director of Quality, Quality Assurance Specialist, or Quality designee with internal and external ISO 9001, ISO 3834 and AISC 207 audits.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost optimization in welding operations, implementing innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and profitability.
- EDUCATION & TRAINING:
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience may be considered.
- Proficiency in various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG arc welding, etc.), familiarity with welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME), and knowledge of welding equipment and materials.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working with welding operations and welding standards.
- At least 3-5 years in a supervisory role or coordinating role.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention-to-detail, with the capacity to analyze complex issues and implement/recommend effective solutions.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint and Google documents.
- Proven ability to operate with integrity and manage confidential information.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor team members to achieve high performance.
- Demonstrate a high level of service and ability to be proactive.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as part of a team.
PREFERRED QUIREMENTS:
- CWI certified.
- ASNT SNT TC-1A NDE level II qualified in Visual and Magnetic Particle interpretation
- Safety certification (OSHA)
