Who we are looking for:
The Senior Technology Manager’s primary responsibility is to partner with their business and technology peers to provide solutions and services that help deliver CarMax’s strategic mission and plans. This position will direct and manage the strategic planning and implementation of enterprise observability platform solution, platform support, and collaboration with technology teams on Reliability-focused efforts. This includes leading efforts to evolve enterprise-wide observability and build a culture of Reliability through best practice implementation and metric-based decisioning that support not only key business initiatives but support day-to-day operations.
Position Requirements:
Strategic planning and results focus
- Identify the appropriate goals for the teams
- Prioritizing objectives and provide a holistic approach to solution recommendations that includes ROI, time to market, scalability, and reliability as well as alternative recommendations
Communication
- Partner with stakeholders, peer groups, IT Leadership, and key Associates.
- Present the vision to executive management.
- Communicate the vision to executive management while also providing guidance for the team to support the strategic direction.
Team Leadership and Development
- Attract, recruit, retain and coach a strong team of skilled and engaged associates aligned to the overall mission.
- Create clear role expectations and develop associates to reach their full potential – understand their goals and needs, partner in their development, provide advice, feedback, training, and advocacy
Technology
- Continue to grow one’s knowledge base and stay current with industry trends while also formulating a technology plan for each business area based on in-depth understanding of the current business needs and their future direction.

Work Authorization: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the Richmond, VA Technology Innovation Center or Dallas Tech Hub in Plano, TX and have a Hybrid work arrangement
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- BS/BA degree required - IT related, preferred
- 7+ years of experience in Information Technology with 5+ years of DevOps, site reliability, and observability design and implementation
- 3+ years’ experience managing direct reports
- 3+ years of experience required leading software projects leveraging Agile practices
- 3+ years of experience required in design and implementation of monitoring tools such as Splunk, Operations Bridge Manager, Zabbix, or Datadog
- 3+ years of experience with Chaos Engineering and ITIL foundations preferred not required
