Laboratory Technician
HIGHPOWER Validation Testing & Lab Services, Inc., a Henrietta, NY based validation laboratory is looking for a full time laboratory technician to help support a small growing laboratory. Candidates will be responsible for and have knowledge of and adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures at HIGHPOWER Validation Testing & Lab Services Inc., the testing protocols assigned to each individual study, and/or standards, and specialized methods of testing provided by agencies (e.g., FDA) and professional associations (e.g., ASTM, AAMI, ISO, USP-NF). General responsibilities are as follows:
- Will interface directly with Study Directors and/or Laboratory Manager to assure accurate, technically competent work and optimum utilization of laboratory resources;
- Will complete paperwork daily for studies in progress to assure accurate and timely data
- Will be required to maintain a laboratory notebook or miscellaneous data forms with explanations of any procedures or information related to studies that are not presented in the study protocol or otherwise documented;
- Will use and assist in the maintenance of autoclaves, low temperature sterilizers, washers, data analyzing equipment, data loggers and a variety of other lab equipment including daily cleaning, data charting, monthly calibrations and validations, and recording daily temperatures/humidity’s and results of biological indicators, as required;
- May be required to prepare liquid and agar media for studies, including the completion of the appropriate paperwork, growth promotion testing and pH measurement;
- Must complete daily and monthly housekeeping tasks for lab areas and lab equipment per SOP’s.
- May conduct weekly/monthly bioburden/environmental testing of various laboratory areas, as required;
- May assist in the requisitioning of laboratory supply orders, receiving supplies and maintaining inventory records;
- Must attend internal and ISO 17025 training/departmental meetings to review SOP’s and proper laboratory procedures;
- Will be responsible to assure that all paperwork produced has been reviewed and is accurate and technically correct to the best of their ability;
Technician Qualifications:
The candidate(s) who will fill this position must have the proper education, training, and experience commensurate with discharging the duties and meeting the responsibilities specified above. Individuals hired as Lab Technicians receive varying degrees of direct supervision, but personal initiative is imperative. Candidates must have an understanding of the principles of planning and organization, and must be willing to gain a general understanding of the industry in which HIGHPOWER competes. A candidate for this position must have the ability and willingness to communicate with other personnel, to understand various functional problems related to performance of the studies assigned, and to assume personal responsibility, as appropriate, for successful completion of assignments.
Up to two (2) positions available for a full time employee.
Working hours are Monday thru Friday 9:30 am to 6:00 pm for a full time position. This position will train on the first shift which is 7:30-4 pm. Occasional weekend work and overtime may be warranted for completion of studies.
Skills Required: Excellent written and oral communication skills, computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Word and the use of Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of ISO 17025, 13485, 9001 or FDA/GMP Quality systems is a plus. Must be well organized and able to pick up tasks quickly, be a team player and able to multi-task in a busy laboratory environment.

Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree in the Biological Sciences or equivalent work experience is desired.
