Our client, a global manufacturing company, is looking for a Global Commodity Manager to join their team! In this role, you will report to the Director of Strategic Sourcing. As the leader of this team, you will be responsible for developing and managing strong partnerships with business segments, plants, distribution centers, and their teams. You will proactively plan the management of their existing supply base, develop and execute strategies to support corporate and organizational goals, and collaborate with Product Managers and Engineering to plan for sourcing new areas of spend.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement global sourcing strategy to drive world-class supply chain performance, optimize total cost, and align Supply Chain commodities and strategy to objectives.
- Lead high-performing cross-functional teams to create and maintain sub-commodity strategies based on technology needs, market conditions, and risk.
- Partner with business segments to resolve unique challenges and provide expertise in strategic sourcing and category management.
- Support new product development projects in component selection, supplier engagement, procurement, and disposition.
- Provide strategic guidance based on business needs and analyses of data and trends.
- Initiate and manage long-term supplier contract agreements.
- Develop benchmarks and balanced scorecards to drive operational performance and continuous improvement.
- Create and manage strategic supplier partnerships to ensure performance expectations are met and productivity targets achieved.
- Develop and implement long-term commodity strategies to lower total cost of ownership and offer world-class customer service.
- Set goals and KPIs, provide a compelling vision, and motivate the work environment.
- Achieve organizational objectives through cost reduction, revenue and margin improvement, and risk mitigation.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and performance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 8+ years of sourcing experience with a considerable understanding of procurement concepts, principles, and at least 5+ years in commodity or category management and Global Strategic Sourcing.
- APICS or CAPM certification is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering related field. Master’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of MRP experience, preferably with SAP.
- Deep understanding of raw metal alloys, subtractive manufacturing, castings, forgings, and stampings.
- Experience in developing and executing commodity strategy and category leadership role (e.g., responsible for multiple businesses within a company, spend over $50M).
- Deep understanding of one or more key commodities: metals, plastics, electronics, motors, pumps, or power transmission.
- Demonstrated strategic decision-making skills regarding business planning processes, make/buy decisions, and similar concerns.
- Experience working with and developing international suppliers.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across all organizational levels, both internally and within supplier organizations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and pull disparate pieces together across the organization.
- Ability to partner with department leaders to identify, create, and plan capabilities to meet short and long-term business needs.
- Demonstrated continuous improvement ethos; ability to identify opportunities and positively influence business decisions.
- Proven ability in leading negotiations and supplier contract management.
