Commonwealth Engineers is seeking an entry-level Environmental Specialist to join our award-winning engineering design and consulting firm. The candidate must be a self-starter willing to grow with our company. Applicant must be adaptable and willing to work in a performance and deadline-driven environment and a team setting. Training will be made available for specific duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, submit, and manage permit applications
- Prepare environmental reports and assessments as required by funding agencies
- Perform environmental resource planning including historic/architectural resources, wetlands, surface waters, groundwater, floodway and floodplain, plants and animals, soils, farmland impacts
- Evaluate sites for potential wetland/stream mitigation
- Coordination with sub-consultants and inclusion of findings in project technical reports
- Prepare technical reports, memorandums, and graphics
- Use of GIS and online mapping to show potential impacts and include technical reports
- Effectively communicate environmental findings and permitting needs
- Utility Coordination
- Other duties as assigned
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science or Public Affairs
- Experience working with Local, State, and/or Federal Environmental/Regulatory Agencies (preferred but not required)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Proficiency in GIS Database systems (preferred but not required)
- Assertive interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and in team environments
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to prioritize
