Position Overview:
The Commercial Plumbing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial plumbing projects. This role involves a deep understanding of plumbing systems, construction documents, and industry standards. The Estimator will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, suppliers, and clients to ensure all estimates are completed efficiently and align with project goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Estimate Preparation: Analyze blueprints, specifications, and related documents to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates for commercial plumbing projects.
- Bid Management: Prepare and submit bids for new projects, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness in pricing and documentation.
- Cost Analysis: Evaluate project costs by reviewing material, labor, and subcontractor quotes, ensuring all costs are accounted for and within budget.
- Client Interaction: Communicate with clients, architects, and engineers to clarify project details, resolve discrepancies, and provide value engineering suggestions.
- Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain accurate pricing and ensure materials and services meet project requirements.
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and challenges associated with project estimates and propose mitigation strategies.
- Reporting: Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and project costs, reporting regularly to management on project status.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of the estimating process.
- Training and Mentorship: Identify training opportunities for estimators and interns, and assist in their development.
- Project Coordination: Assist in leading addendum logs, preparing and coordinating Request for Proposal (RFP) documents, and participating in plan review meetings.
- Technical Support: Provide technical product support to designers and customers related to quotes and project estimates.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years in commercial plumbing estimating or a related field.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred; equivalent experience will be considered. High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, and construction documents. Familiarity with estimating software such as Bluebeam, FastPIPE, QuickBid, or similar tools. Strong mathematical and computer skills, including proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of commercial plumbing systems, materials, installation methods, and relevant codes and standards.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with team members, clients, and vendors in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in preparing estimates and managing project documentation.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and make sound decisions.
- Work Ethic: Must possess a strong work ethic and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, and lift up to 25 pounds. Must be willing to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Professional Estimator (CPE) is a plus.
- Experience in project management or a related role within the construction industry.
