The Opportunity
For the Project Manager – Renewable Hydrogen/Power-to-X Development role, we are looking for an ambitious self-starter to help the execute our growing list of projects with forward-thinking clients across Canada and North America. The role will be a good fit for a multifaceted individual, who can quickly distil technical and regulatory matters regarding renewable fuels technologies including electrolysis, methanol synthesis, methanation, carbon capture, and related facilities. We are looking for advanced problem-solving, analytical and relationship-building skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other members of the team, often remotely.
The key activities will include (but are not limited to):
Project Planning and Execution:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of renewable hydrogen and Power-to-X projects.
- Develop and manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure project objectives are met.
- Coordinate with internal teams, including engineering, finance, and regulatory departments, to align project goals with company strategy.
- Oversee the development of project documentation, including project charters, schedules, risk management plans, and progress reports.
Technical Modeling and Analysis:
- Support technical modeling efforts for renewable hydrogen and Power-to-X projects, including energy yield assessments, system optimization, and economic analysis.
- Collaborate with engineers and analysts to ensure accurate and robust modeling of project scenarios.
- Interpret modeling results to inform project design and decision-making processes.
Technology Vendor Evaluation:
- Evaluate and select technology vendors for key components such as electrolyzers, methanation equipment, and methanol production technologies.
- Conduct due diligence on technology vendors, assessing their technical performance, cost-effectiveness, scalability, and compatibility with project requirements.
- Engage with vendors to understand their offerings, negotiate contracts, and ensure alignment with project specifications and timelines.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in hydrogen production, methanation, and methanol technologies to inform vendor selection and project planning.
Stakeholder Management:
- Act as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, and partners.
- Manage relationships with external contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure successful project execution.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve issues and keep projects on track.
Risk Management:
- Identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop contingency plans and adjust project strategies as needed to address unforeseen challenges.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
Reporting and Documentation:
- Provide regular updates to senior management on project status, risks, and opportunities.
- Maintain detailed project records, including technical documentation, financial reports, and compliance documentation.
- Prepare and present project reports, including performance metrics and post-project evaluations.
Key Requirements and Skills
The successful candidate will have highly effective communication skills; verbal, written and presentation. They must be able to understand complicated subject material but present it in a simple, understandable context for all audiences. We are looking for smart, ambitious, and proactive people who can think strategically, see the bigger picture, set big goals and objectives, and come up with a tactile action plan for achieving them. The ideal candidate will be comfortable in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
The successful candidate will:
- Have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering.
- A master’s degree in business administration or engineering (optional).
- Possess 3 – 5 years of experience (relevant experience in the renewable energy industry, infrastructure and/or project management is an asset).
- Have strong technical skills in their field of engineering, technical modelling and analysis.
- Be highly proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, MSProject.
- Have strong quantification skills, including cost & benefit analysis, scenario analysis, projections, regressions, and visualizing data in charts and graphs.
- Have highly effective communication skills; verbal, written, and presentation.
- Be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines.
- Be well organized and able to demonstrate a high degree of accuracy.
- Be a self-starter with the ability to work with a collaborative, driven team of skilled professionals.
- Be an ambitious and proactive person who can think strategically, see the bigger picture, set big goals and objectives, and come up with a tactile action plan for achieving them.
- Be comfortable in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- Have good relationship management and interpersonal skills for establishing trust with stakeholders.
