Position Title: Safety and Compliance Manager

Position Summary
The Safety and Compliance Manager (transportation/fleet industry) is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the company’s safety programs and ensuring compliance with all regulatory standards. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and extensive knowledge of safety practices, regulations, and risk management strategies in the transportation industry. The ideal candidate will foster a culture of safety within the organization, enhance driver performance, and maintain comprehensive safety documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Development (transportation/fleet industry)
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety policies and procedures in compliance with industry regulations and standards.
- Create, maintain, and amend safety manuals, guidelines, and training materials.( as needed)
- Manage and develop safety rules and procedure
Compliance and Regulations
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations and industry standards.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
Risk Management
- Identify potential safety hazards and risks associated with transportation operations.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and prevent accidents and injuries.
Training and Education
- Lead and conduct safety training programs for employees at all levels, including drivers, maintenance staff, and office personnel.
- Maintain Driver Qualification Files and ensure all employees are adequately trained in safety practices and emergency response procedures.
- Facilitate driver road tests and defensive driving strategies.
- Lead driver orientations to instill safety protocols from the outset.
Incident Investigation
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine causes and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents and develop reports for management review.

Safety Culture Promotion
- Foster a culture of safety within the organization by promoting awareness and encouraging proactive safety practices.
- Engage employees in safety initiatives and recognize safe behaviors and practices.
Emergency Preparedness
- Develop and implement emergency response plans for various scenarios, including accidents, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
- Conduct regular drills and exercises to ensure readiness and effectiveness of emergency response plans.
Performance Monitoring
· Monitor safety performance metrics and analyze data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
· Prepare and present regular safety performance reports to senior management.
· Track safety scores and develop driver scorecards to improve driver CSA scores.
Stakeholder Engagement
· Collaborate with external agencies, regulatory bodies, and industry associations on safety matters.
· Represent the company at safety-related meetings, conferences, and events.
Additional Responsibilities
· Provide ELD (Electronic Logging Device) support and monitor hours of service compliance.
· Manage FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) compliance, including maintenance.
· Oversee safety score tracking and driver CSA score improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
· Experience in Transportation, Logistics, or a related field.
· Minimum of 5 + years of experience in a safety management role in the transportation industry.
· Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
· Proven ability to lead safety training and development programs.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent communication, driver handling and interpersonal skills.
· Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
· Certification in safety management or related areas is a plus.
