General Dynamics manufactures and sells a broad range of high performance electro-mechanical and electro-optical components and sub-assemblies to the aerospace, defense, intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance markets. We presently have a need for a Sr Electrical Engineer at our San Diego (Otay Mesa) location.
This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and reviewing the performance of professional and/or technical staff performing engineering work related to the design of control electronics for motion control products.
Responsibilities:
- Performs design and integration of motion control electronics for brushless DC (BLDC) motors.
- Perform electrical engineering tasks related to component selection, circuit noise analysis, packaging concepts, and testing.
- Plans and develops experimental test programs.
- Analyzes test data and determines if design meets functional and performance specifications.
- Participates in program management with staff and performs related administrative work involving planning and organizing projects and assignments and the evaluation of staff performance.
- Perform calculations, circuit simulation, tolerance analyses, and reliability analyses, and will assure full documentation in plans, specifications, and reports.
- Provide technical leadership to subordinate engineers and technicians will direct designers to prepare schematics, printed wiring boards, and assembly drawings, and direct technicians to build printed wiring assemblies and special test fixtures.
- Assist in the establishment of milestone schedules for detailed tasks and will perform to program schedules established by project engineers or program managers.
- Contribute to technical proposals, including budget and schedule estimation.
- Assists other key engineers and staff of the organization in analyzing customer requests to determine the feasibility of product proposals and development.
- Provides manufacturing support when needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (a Master’s degree in engineering is a plus).
- Minimum of 5 years hands-on engineering experience in a high technology, manufacturing environment
- The position requires knowledge of electro-mechanical testing methods, data collection and analysis, equipment used in testing, and methods/processes of testing operations.
- Experience with embedded C for motor control
- Knowledge of feedback devices for motor control such as hall sensors, resolvers and encoders
- Experience with multiple serial communications protocols such as SPI, I2C, RS232/RS485
- Gigabit Ethernet direct experience is a plus
- Strong research, design, and development knowledge within the electrical engineering discipline including the knowledge of control systems.
- Proficient with MATLAB and SIMULINK applications.
- Altium Designer skillset is a plus
- Have strong facilitation, communication, interpersonal skills and solid organizational/planning skills.
