Job Summary:
The Jr. R&D Engineer is responsible for the design, optimization, innovation and other related R&D activities of the laundry systems or components. R&D engineers need to maintain communication with the North American R&D team and the Chinese domestic R&D team. Jr. R&D engineers must have strong mechanical system/subsystem-level design technical knowledge. Possess innovative thinking and innovative methods. Proficiency in using design software such as UG, Creo, SolidWorks, or CAD.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Participate on the North American washing machine & dryer Research and Development projects, including mechanical component and structural design and feature development.
- collaborate on maintaining technical product plan road maps and establish plan of actions and milestone tracking of projects.
- Will complete design and development of new product appearance parts and functional parts as required.
- Will work to develop technology for intellectual property development for laundry products.
- Responsible for the structural design and improvement of related parts.
- Research the field of mechanical technology, responsible for organizing technical research on key core technologies focusing on structural design and mechanical transmission.
- Participate in research on related innovation projects and innovation methods.
- Work closely with the North American R&D team and the Chinese domestic R&D teams.
- Actively participate in technical project review and innovation.
- Must develop cross-functional cooperation with various internal and external engineering teams to jointly carry out project work.
- Must become proficient and advise team on energy and performance characteristics to drive products for the best possible energy and performance.
- Participate in industry related technical committees as required regarding safety standards, performance and energy. Will engage with committees within AHAM or UL standards.
- Conduct root cause analysis and develop design improvement projects based upon field returns.
- Implement projects and special tasks as needed.
- Travel to China is required.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
Preferred:
- 1-3 rotations as a mechanical engineer R&D co-op with Home Appliances, with Midea or comparable industry is strongly preferred.
- 1-2 years’ experience working as a design engineer.
- Experience with UG, Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD or other similar software.
Job Skills:
- Hands on ability to prototype.
- Familiar with injection molding and metal fabrication.
- Good Communication skills both written and verbal.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong organizational skill and ability to prioritize tasks appropriately.
- A self-starter and self-disciplined in accomplishing tasks.
- Strong desire to learn with ability to be self-taught.
