We're looking for a Librarian or Library Assistant who will play a meaningful role through a Spanish-speaking role within the New Jersey Public Library System.
Salary/Hourly Rate: $18.70 – $34.28
Duration: 4/29/2024 – 5/31/2024
Position Overview:
As a Library Assistant or Librarian within the New Jersey Public Library System, you will perform professional library activities to meet the educational, recreational, and cultural information needs of the community.
The ideal Library Assistant or Librarian candidate has proficiency in written and verbal Spanish and is passionate about providing excellent customer service, developing strong community relationships, and working collaboratively with others.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform general library practices.
- Respond to requests in person, over the phone, and/or via email to answer questions and locate information in Spanish.
- Teach a variety of skills to patrons of all ages, particularly research skills.
- Keep up with information management trends.
- Create and publish web-based content including research tutorials, subject guides, course guides, promotional spots, and information pieces.
- Manage patron access to resources.
Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Spanish.
- Experience working in a public, academic, or corporate library.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to work with the public and with people of all ages.
- Ability to operate a computer, library software, web browsers, and an e-mail interface.
- Capacity to read, write, and speak in English sufficiently to perform duties in person and on telephone.
- Ability to bend, stoop, reach, lift, stand, and ambulate, as needed, as relevant to the position. Daily tasks require lifting, carrying, moving, and manipulating books and other library material, as well as pushing a loaded cart full of books.
- Occasional travel to meetings or training outside of the library.
Education Requirements:
- degree preferred (MLS, MLIS).
- degree required.
