Title: Director of Mission Services
Reports to: President and CEO
Location: Madison, WI (hybrid/flexible)
Our client is a local nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization employing more than 450 team members in a 14-county region. 13 retail stores and one attended donation center help fund our client’s mission services in South Central Wisconsin, which include supported employment and job skills training for community members with barriers to employment, along with supportive housing for individuals living with chronic mental illness and volunteer income tax assistance.
The Director of Mission Services is responsible for leading and growing our client’s mission with residential programs and employment services. This includes oversight of a variety of sector-based training programs and strategic employer partnerships and supervising the program manager who is responsible for taking new workforce development opportunities from conception to implementation. Priority responsibilities will include establishing quality standards and enhancements to create an integrated delivery system which meets market needs. This position will lead integrated project teams to achieve workforce development objectives.
Supervisory responsibilities:
- Partners with the Talent Acquisition team to recruit, interview, hire, and train direct reports.
- Oversees the daily workflow of their department.
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations.
- Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership for the services provided to residents at our client’s Group Homes and residential apartments in accordance with contract provisions and best practices.
- Provides leadership to site group home managers and residential apartment facilities.
- Responsible for ensuring a safe work environment by regular safety reviews, employee training and follow through. This includes minimizing the number of work related accidents within the department.
- Responsible for meeting contracted goals, mandated standards, and regulatory requirements established for our client’s Residential Programs.
- Prepare annual operating and capital budget for residential programs and properties.
- Establishes program goals, policies, procedures, methods, strategies, and standards for successful delivery of high-quality services in residential programs. This includes procedures for internal controls.
- Responsible for minimizing medication errors through appropriate training and follow-up with responsible staff. Depending on seriousness of these incidents may include appropriate progressive disciplinary actions.
- Responsible for complying with HUD 4350.3 Standards.
- Report to the Affiliate Board as requested by the President.
- Participate in executive management planning, problem solving and decision making.
- Represent our client in the community for all mission programs and community impact. This includes participation in appropriate system-wide committees, meetings, events and related venues.
- Oversee quality employment programs, ensuring all contract and grant requirements are met accurately and timely.
- Thoroughly review, understand, and implement contracts and or service guidelines for all assigned programs.
- Ensure all documentation and related activities are current, accurate, and in compliance.
- Ensure documentation is completed, secured, and maintained in appropriate data management systems.
- Meet or exceed projected revenue or billable hour goals and net margin goals for all assigned areas.
- Seek new sources of revenue that fulfill our client’s mission and align with strategic plan.
- Provide input in preparation of the annual budget for delivery of services provided.
- Develop and implement proposals for new services.
- Maintain agency and participant confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with participants, referral agencies, education partners, community partners, and all team members.
- Assist with grant proposals and report development, including research, data collection, writing, and supporting materials.
- Provide consultation, motivation, and leadership to assigned program staff.
- Provide coaching and oversight necessary to minimize data entry errors.
- Conduct marketing and effective communications as a liaison and advocate with referral agencies, community leaders, government agencies, employers, and other stakeholders.
- Promote services that help participants reach their highest level of independence according to their service goals.

Travel Required: Ability to travel up to 20%.
Required education and/or work experience:
- 4-year college degree in social work, sociology, psychology or related field is required. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Five years of related experience in social work management, human services, or a related field, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
