- Industrial AUTOMATION CONTROLS ENGINEER
- This position in is Mooresville, NC just north of Charlotte, NC.
- This position is on-site, not remote or hybrid
IST Precision Inc. is a machine design and manufacturing company established in 2001 in North Carolina that focuses in industrial automation equipment. We have our own dedicated fabrication shop, machine design group, controls group, and panel shop. We are seeking a full-time controls engineer to support our growing industrial automation group.
The controls engineer will be responsible for working with a controls team in robotic programming, vision assist, PLC controls, safety PLC, drafting controls narratives, supporting electrical schematics and interfacing with vendors. The controls engineer should have a strong background in mechanical or electrical engineering The ideal candidate will have some experience in programming and prior experience in machine design.

Responsibilities
- Ability to size and specify motors, actuators, sensors, vision systems, and other automation peripherals.
- Work with the controls team in panel builds, programming, and field support
- Serve as liaison between our machine designers and controls team
- Review electrical machine schematics in AutoCAD electrical
- Develop controls narratives and controls code
- Program robotic and imaging applications
- Develop HMI applications and PLC programs
- Work in panel shop with team to build panels on an as needed basis
- Provide field support to commission machines
- Help in efforts in regular maintenance service contracts
- Work with external suppliers.
- Assist in refined processes, procedures, and best practices with the controls teams.
- Assisting in mechanical and electrical machine assemblies
- Up to 10% travel for commission projects outside of Mooresville NC area as is typical in the controls industry
Minimum Required Experience:
- Bsc in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering
- The ideal candidate will have experience working with a variety of automation technologies, including robotics and vision. , PLCs, HMIs, safety I/O, wide variety of motors and sensors.
- Ladder, function block diagrams
- 2 years experience developing process code.
- Experience in troubleshooting automated equipment
- Enjoys working with hands and computer work
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- The ideal candidate will be a self-starter and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with both mechanical and controls teams.
- Programming systems with 5+ devices
- Field start up and commissioning experience
- Knowledge of safety and supplementary protection
- Knowledge of variable frequency drives and motor sizing for applications
Preferred Experience:
- 5 years experience working mechanical CAD packages with solid understanding of mechanical designs
- Understanding of CE, NFPA 79, and SEMI S8 compliance
- Sizing wire, breakers, transformers etc
- Experience programming PLCs, HMIs, safety I/O, wide variety of motors and sensors.
- 3 years experience developing process code and HMI applications
- 3 years experience working with AutoCAD electrical
- Structured text programming
- Direct experience working with Allen Bradley and Siemens. Considered a plus working with automation direct, Beckhoff and other controller manufacturers.
- Robotics programming experience such as Kuka, Motoman, ABB for example.
- Knowledge in power distribution and electrical machine panels from VFDs, motors, safety sensors, air distribution, pneumatics and more.
