Outside Plant / OSP Design Engineer
Ft. Meyers, FL but we will consider some remote candidates as well from South East of US.
The Design Engineer is responsible for delivering high-quality designs by evaluating customer requests, which are typically provided as boundary maps or lists of addresses to be served. This role demands exceptional customer service, ensuring that designs are produced promptly and to a high standard. The Design Engineer should be capable of working independently, performing duties with minimal supervision.
While primarily focused on design, the role may also involve taking field notes. Some travel may be required, though this is predominantly a remote position. Experience in OSP Telecom is highly recommended, and proficiency with design tools such as AutoCAD, ARIMIS, and GIS is essential. The position operates under strict deadlines to produce quality products for construction. Once construction is complete, the Design Engineer will update designs with any necessary corrections based on feedback from the construction team.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Receive and analyze boundary maps from customers, ensuring attention to critical dates and detailed information provided.
- Schedule site surveys, if feasible, and gather the necessary forms and drawings for walkthroughs.
- Conduct detailed engineering site surveys with customers or independently, as needed.
- Provide survey information for the development of bids or customer-specific response forms.
- Compile a list of all required materials, including types, quantities, and cable lengths, to complete requested work.
- Prepare and issue detailed job specifications and drawings before the construction start date.
- Establish and maintain ongoing communication with customers to proactively plan and recommend future projects.
- Recommend changes to standard material libraries to ensure appropriate supplies are provided.
- Assist in updating procedures as required to meet customer or equipment requirements.
- Support construction managers and crews in resolving any field issues.
- Attend customer meetings as needed.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Manager.
- Driving is an essential function of this position.
Safety Duties & Responsibilities:
- Adhere to, promote, and accept personal responsibility for compliance with Federal and Local Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, Industry Consensus Standards, and the Circet USA Injury and Illness Prevention Program Manual.
- Participate in job site safety and hazard analysis.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; a technical degree is preferred.
- A minimum of 1.5 to 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of training and demonstrated proficiency.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft programs and applications.
- Proficient in the use of iOS and/or Android applications.
- Proficient in using CAD, 3GIS, ARIMIS, and ARCH GIS design tools.
- Experience with Verizon, Lumen, AT&T, or other telecom providers in design or fielding is preferred.
- OSP Telecom experience is a must
