The Trusts and Estates Department of Capehart Scatchard is seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Trust and Estate attorney with 3+ years of experience to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will be a motivated and driven attorney who is looking to balance the rewards of a challenging and interesting career with family/home life. Remote work for a portion of the work week is an option.
Responsibilities
- Handle basic to complex estate planning and estate and trust administration
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws, estate tax principles, and trust administration procedures
- Experience in drafting wills, trusts, operating and shareholder agreements and other estate planning documents
- Quantify tax impacts of estate and business succession plans; and work on estate and trust administration matters, including structuring the administration plan; supervising the preparation of accountings and estate, gift, and fiduciary income tax returns
- Address procedural and disputed matters
- Ability to self-start, meet deadlines, prioritize, manage multiple projects simultaneously, work well with change in a fast-paced environment
- Regularly consult with clients, accountants, financial advisors, and other parties as needed to effectively move cases forward
- Cultivate strong client relationships, offerings empathetic advice and reassurance during stressful times
- Report on caseload at regular intervals
- Develop a client following to increase the firm’s revenues
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and licensed with the New Jersey and Pennsylvania State Bars
- LLM in taxation (or in the process of obtaining same)
- 3+ years of estate planning experience handling matters from inception to conclusion, including meeting with clients, developing a strategy for an estate plan, and preparing the appropriate estate plan documents to meet the client’s objectives
- Effective, clear, concise, and accurate communication, both oral and written, at an appropriate level to the situation and the client
- Working knowledge of finance, investments, and taxes
- Great ability to focus under pressure and the willingness to do what needs to be done
- Demonstrate a high degree of discretion, confidentiality, and integrity in the handling of personal client information, including following the Rules of Professional Conduct
- Have strong computer skills with extensive experience using MS Office Suite, timekeeping, and case management software
- Business acumen and ability to build and maintain client relationships
- Established client base is a plus
