The defense contractor is involved with the product development and manufacturing of various systems for military aerospace and vehicles in the Los Angeles International Airport area. With a 50+ year foundation, our client supports all branches of the Department of Defense and allies around the globe on an array of programs and platforms. We support many military prime contractors, including Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Determinant Manufacturing will be responsible for complete oversight of the Determinant Manufacturing/Assembly processes, practices, and requirements. Through effective methods and strategies, responsibilities will include development, execution, setting resource requirements, resource allocation, and controls of all manufacturing processes by specifications. Led an operating unit of diverse programs, primarily in the development phase of the program lifecycle, focusing on machining, engineering, and execution excellence, including cost, schedule, technical performance, and future growth. Execution activities include make vs. buy decisions, proposals, development, programming, and manufacture of products for test and platform integration, as well as production and R&D. Craft and execute strategies that result in sustainable value creation that deliver measurable results. Model personal growth and continuous development. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and participate in developing and implementing Determinant Machining strategic plans and processes
- Recruit & mentor future leaders, direct training & skill development initiatives, and promote Engagement & Inclusion activities.
- Lead and monitor the development, implementation, and maintenance of standard operating procedures and guidelines within responsible functional areas.
- Define long and short-term manufacturing plans/goals by company goals and objectives.
- Direct and monitor CNC Programmers in the accomplishment of manufacturing plan goals, new Production requirements, and R&D support
- Coordinate with the broader Business Organization, R&D, and industry to identify and leverage existing resources, tools, and practices.
- Direct the planning and execution of strategic funds (capital and expense) for capital equipment and machinery improvement and expansion, as well as technological advancement activities.
- Financial management oversight of rates, budgets, and overhead supporting manufacturing activities
- Partner effectively across organizational lines to achieve goals and objectives, preferably with specific appreciation for the interactions across engineering and manufacturing disciplines, processes, and roles and responsibilities on complex programs
- Lead a cultural shift in the organization focused on continuous improvements to move the facility to the next level of operational excellence.
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required; Engineering, Science, or related technical field or 15 years experience; or a combination of education and related experience
- A minimum of 10 years of Programming and/or Machining leadership experience in multi-function operations, preferably in an A&D environment, is required.
- Knowledge and experience in production and manufacturing processes and techniques, raw materials, quality systems and standards, machines and tools, process improvement techniques, business management principles, and practices required
- Must be familiar with engineering and technology principles and practices
- Advanced computer skills working with MS Office programs and ERP systems (preferably SAP)
- Experience working across multiple disciplines with a focus on product development and producibility
- Must have experience in business and management principles and practices
- CNC Programming experience utilizing CATIA, Mastercam, Siemens, or equivalent CNC software, working with CAD drawings, 3D models, and step files
- Strong GD&T background with an emphasis on manufacturing components with pre-defined interface values
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills, be team-oriented, have strong people leadership skills, and be able to effectively multi-task competing priorities and schedules
- Ability to effectively motivate performance urgency
- Must be able to lift to 35 lbs
