Responsibilities
Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities. Under supervision, the Engineers shall perform Engineering Design Services of moderate difficulty and responsibility.
Pre-Design Phase [25% of time]:
- Conduct Site Visits to verify existing conditions; and
- Prepare Conceptual Design Alternatives.
Design Phase [60% of time]:
- Design and prepare Engineering Drawings for either Engineering-specific projects, or as part of larger multiple trade Architectural / Landscape Architectural projects;
- Prepare associated Outine Specifications based on the plans, and verify cost estimates at each Design Phase; and
- Prepare Contract Drawings, full Specifications and Final Estimates of Costs, with quantities when required;
- Participate in Cost Reconciliation process, and revise Contract Documents accordingly;
- Participate in Design Review process, and revise Contract Documents accordingly; and
- Prepare Bid Documents and assist with Bid Packages, as required..
Bid, Award and Construction Phases [10% of time]:
- Participate in the Bid and Award Procedure;
- Review Submittals;
- Respond to Requests for Information.
Perform Design Review [5% of time]:
- The Engineering Designers may be required to perform Design Reviews for Design Documents prepared by others, or to revise their own prepared Design Documents to conform with Design Review comments.
The Engineers may be required to attend certain meetings for their assigned projects:
- Design Pre-Kick Off and Kick-Off Meetings;
- Resident and Management Staff ["Stakeholders”] Meeting at start of Pre-Design Phase;
- Field Visits during Design Phases as Consultant may need to verify existing conditions;
- Site Walk-through with the Construction Group’s Program Unit during Design Phase, to review existing conditions and design objectives;
- Internal Design Progress Meetings during Design, typically held at the completion of each Design Phase; and
- Resident and Management Staff ["Stakeholders”] Meeting at Design Completion.
- Prepare, revise and distribute Meeting Minutes to all attendees, as required.
Requirements
Essential Skills and Experience:
- 5 or more years of mechanical design experience
- Professional P.E. License preferred
- Familiarity with New York City Engineering design standards, codes, and industry standards of practice relevant to all aspects of Professional Engineering Design.
- Familiarity and understanding of Contract Documents for Engineering, and administration of same during the Construction Phase.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, communication abilities [for both graphics and writing], and project management experience.
- Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in MicroStation [and / or AutoCAD] and Microsoft Office capabilities; and SpecLink experience is desirable.
- In possession of a Valid Driver’s License
