Overview:
The Systems Engineer performs a wide range of technical and project management duties associated with the support of company networks and systems. This is a highly technical and professional position. It is distinguished by the requirement to demonstrate expertise in project management, network design, implementation, security maintenance, support and overall knowledge of Client/Server, network, hardware, database and software integrations.
Responsibilities:
- Works under the direction of the IT manager in conjunction with multifunctional teams, vendors and end users on small to large complexity projects.
- Provides project costs, design concepts, or changes. Evaluates current or emerging technologies. Makes recommendations and implements solutions. Is able to use independent judgment and recommend solutions based on factors like cost, complexity and time.
- Assists in development of changes and modifications of procedures regarding configuration of vital computing equipment. Participates in audits to ensure optimal performance, reliability and environment security.
- Collaborates with engineers, system administrators, software developers, users and management to select appropriate design solutions or to ensure the compatibility of system components. Maintains AD for efficiency and security. Changes, safeguards and audits DNS, DHCP and other vital network services.
- Enforces, monitors, and remedies security to meet PCI/DSS, Privacy and HIPPA requirements. Uses and sets standards for secure protocols like SSH, HTTP, and SSL not allowing clear text protocols like FTP, http, telnet etc.
- Configures and defines parameters for installation or testing of local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), switches, routers, firewalls, servers, virtualization technology, and related network equipment. Creates and maintains technical documentation.
- Enforces licensing agreements; assists with network security and performs LAN/WAN auditing as directed by senior systems engineers. Configure and maintain various physical security components such as IP cameras, access control systems, and turnstiles. Monitors use of computer systems to ensure efficient utilization. Identifies inadequate or inefficient systems, bottlenecks, performance problems and suggests alternatives.

- Performs installation and maintenance of all network servers; supervises the installation, configuration and maintenance on all desktop, laptop and notebook computers. Implements in accordance with best practice, high availably, reliably, performance and accepted security standards. Ensures all patches, firmware and regular preventive maintenance is performed routinely.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree / vocational or technical school degree.
- 4-6 years of related work experience
- TCP/IP, routing protocols, layer 2 and layer 3 devices, etc
- Microsoft, CompTIA or other IT certification preferred
