Position: Advanced Quality Engineer - Advanced Manufacturing
Location: Charlotte, NC or Damascus, VA
Position Overview: The Quality Engineer assists in the development and operation of quality control systems, application and analysis of testing and inspection procedures, and the use of metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Formulates and maintains quality assurance objectives, procedures, and processes in coordination with quality and plant management to improve process capability, maximize product reliability, and minimize costs.
- Observes, documents, improves, and standardizes manufacturing processes and procedures, including analysis and reporting of manufacturing data to perform capability studies, identify issues/opportunities and monitor results.
- Devises, executes, and monitors inspection and quality assurance procedures.
- Designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating and reporting quality and reliability data and performance.
- Works with parties outside the manufacturing facilities, such as strategic sourcing, vendors, and customers, to assure acceptable quality levels and address/resolve quality issues.
- Plans, promotes, and performs training activities related to product and process quality and reliability.
- In conjunction with site quality management, serves as a representative for ISO 9001-2015 (ANSI/ASQC Q9001-1994) and performs audits to assess compliance and identify improvement opportunities.
- Utilizes PFMEA for product and process risk assessment.
- Leads product and process launches with process capability and statistical relevancy, while adhering to validation protocols.
- Conducts data collection, data analysis, and trending.
- Assists or leads thorough investigations of quality issues and effective corrective/preventative actions.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:
- Understands and can effectively communicate about design controls, design verification and validation, production and process controls, root cause analysis, corrective and preventive action, complaints and risk management, and product quality improvement.
- Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, MSA, and Control Plan development.
- Proficient in the use of analytical tools and techniques to analyze data, identify root cause and lead problem resolution efforts to implement effective solutions.
- Familiarity with production processes, standard mechanical, metallurgical and electrical test methods, SPC, ISO-9001-2015 requirements.
- Must possess a strong sense of urgency, teamwork, keen attention to detail, with ability to plan, organize and multi-task.
- Six Sigma Green Belt and ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Engineering (Quality or Industrial Preferred) or other related field; or, four years related experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of experience in a similar role
- Quality management systems experience (ISO 9001:2015)
- Must be willing and able to travel domestically 50%+
