Job Description:
The Director of Aircraft Certification leads a team of engineers who specialize in both FAA and military certification of aircraft modifications. These engineers are part of the applicant program team and represent the applicant to the different certification authorities including the internal FAA Organization Designation Authorization (ODA), the FAA Military Certification Board (MCB) and the different DoD services airworthiness authorities. This position is also responsible for identifying and incorporating best practices with regards to establishing certification plans and activities across the ISR Sector. The position reports to the ISR Sector Chief Engineer.
Essential Functions:
Leads a team of highly experienced engineers specializing in establishing plans for aircraft certification and seeing them through execution.
Identifies and operationalizes best practices and standard work with regard to aircraft certification for both FAA and military certification efforts.
Recommends and operationalizes strategies that have a direct impact on the mid- to long-term function/area achievements. Work requires a high degree of responsibility for resources, and frequently influences business decisions made by leadership.
Possess excellent managerial and leadership skills.
Interfaces at a senior level with leadership within L3Harris and certification authorities.
Oversees continued training, education and development of the team of aircraft certification engineers to ensure L3Harris has the most capable in the industry.
Flexibility to work on short notice, overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed and can travel up to 20%. Requires advanced business knowledge, general management, and leadership capability to lead business area or functional teams.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 15 years of prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, minimum of 19 years of prior related experience.
Position requires the ability to obtain a DOD Secret level security clearance.
13+ years experience with aircraft certification programs
In depth knowledge and understanding of certification regulations and processes
Knowledge of both FAA and military aircraft certification process
Experience taking a major aircraft certification effort from beginning to end
Preferred Additional Skills:
Knowledge of coordinating cross-functional Agency customers and international partners.
Established working relationship with government customers and end user.
Experience with integrated program scheduling, risk management, subcontracts.
Working knowledge of Firm Fixed Priced (FFP), Cost Reimbursable (CR) and Time and Material (T&M) contracting structures.
Broad experience with different types of certification activities to include outer mold line changes, avionics and mission systems
Experience working with or for a major aircraft OEM
