Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Family Law Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least two (2) years experience in the field of Family Law, including divorce, child custody, alimony, and property division. You will be responsible for managing a diverse caseload, working closely with clients to navigate the complexities of family law, and advocating on their behalf in court. This position will be a mix of managing your own case load, with assistance from one of the partners of the firm, as well as assisting the partners with their individual case load in order to learn and gain valuable insight into the practice of family law. Must be willing to work as a team with accountability being a major asset and able to take constructive criticism. Must be willing to complete all tasks involved with the practice of law such as mailings, faxes, phone calls and setting your own appointments as the learning process will involve making sure that all members of our staff know how to do everything involved with clients during the initial training process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in all aspects of family law cases, including divorce, child custody, support, adoption, and domestic violence.
- Draft and review legal documents such as pleadings, motions, agreements, contracts, judgments and court orders while being supervised by a partner or senior attorney.
- Conduct legal research and stay updated on changes in family law.
- Provide expert legal advice to clients, guiding them through each step of the legal process.
- Negotiate settlements and advocate for clients in court hearings and trials.
- Collaborate with paralegals, legal assistants, and other attorneys to ensure comprehensive case management.
- Maintain strong communication with clients, ensuring they are informed and supported throughout their case.
- Must be comfortable with litigation and court appearances.
- Be familiar or become familiar with each county’s Local Rules.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in North Carolina.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in family law.
- Strong understanding of family law procedures, statutes, and case law.
- Excellent negotiation, litigation, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases with a high degree of organization and attention to detail.
- Compassionate and client-focused, with a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for clients.
- Proficiency in legal research tools and case management software.
- Must be a member of the NC State Bar in good standing.
- Notary Public is a plus but not required.
