Position Overview:
The Framing and Drywall Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the field installation of framing, drywall, stucco, plaster, and related finishes from start to finish on all projects. This role is crucial in ensuring the project is completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. The Superintendent shares responsibility with the rest of the project team for the on-time, satisfactory completion of the project while keeping costs at or under budget.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise all field staff, coordinating regularly with general contractors, project managers, branch managers, and the VP of construction.
- Lead and mentor field employees, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality workmanship and adherence to safety standards.
- Attend weekly job scheduling meetings to allocate the proper amount of manpower per project.
- Develop and manage detailed schedules based on general contractor timelines, ensuring all activities are sequenced and executed efficiently.
- Track job schedules for scopes of work and preceding trades, reporting all delays and potential delays in writing.
- Perform job checks for all new projects to ensure safety and readiness prior to initiating manpower deployment.
- Maintain a daily presence on job sites to oversee manpower, production, and safety, ensuring that the project remains on schedule and within budget.
- Coordinate labor-only subcontractors, including manpower management, payroll processing, safety oversight, and supervision.
- Schedule and manage manpower, including monitoring and approving all weekly payroll hours.
- Coordinate and schedule material deliveries to job sites in a timely manner.
- Order lifts and other necessary equipment for active jobs, ensuring team members are trained in their safe usage.
- Schedule and manage maintenance for trucks and forklifts.
- Regularly update project managers and the VP of construction on project progress.
- Actively participate in the recruitment and hiring process for new field team members.
- Execute specialty tasks such as concrete moisture emissions testing, layout, and field measuring as needed.
- Implement and manage required job-site safety programs, conducting weekly “toolbox talks.”
- Complete site accident reports immediately, thoroughly, and accurately.
- Ensure that punch list items and quality issues are promptly addressed to expedite the collection of retainages.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by your manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in construction, with a strong focus on framing, drywall installation, and related trades.
- Proven experience in reading and creating schedules based on general contractor schedules, with a strong understanding of construction timelines.
- Proficiency in blueprint reading and familiarity with construction software with the ability to adapt to different platforms.
- OSHA 10 and/or 30-hour certification required.
- Forklift, scissor lift, boom lift, and fall protection certifications preferred.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Office and the ability to quickly learn and use other computer programs.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively and maintain a firm but fair approach.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and maintain confidentiality.
