Role and Responsibilities: Under supervisory official, designs, develops, coordinates, and conducts computerized geographic information systems work relating to the geographic analysis of environmental parameters, image processing, remote sensing data and mathematical cartography research.
- Develops, conducts, coordinates GIS activities utilizing geographic analysis by coordinating the application of cartographic principles in the production of finished maps.
- Performs and coordinates integrated satellite acquired data for analysis of spital distribution present in the environment.
- Uses and instructs department staff and other agencies on the use of image processing packages and other software on color graphics.
- Identifies and defines GIS products to be generated for each application.
- Implements and tests new techniques of mathematical and statistical cartography.
- Prepares/ coordinates the preparation of technical reports and correspondence in the course of official duties.
- Interacts with scientists and engineers in various units or agencies regarding the procurement, preparation, and/or editing of machine-readable data.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Graduation from accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree. Three (3) years of experience with geographic information systems including computer graphics and computer hardware digitizing procedures. Note: Master’s degree in Geography/ Environmental Science, twelve (12) semester hours in computer mapping /GIS can substitute one (1) year of experience.
Preferred Skills
Knowledge of geography, data transmission, data reforming, manual map and graph preparation.
