Head of Chemistry (Small Molecule)
Join a pioneering startup as the Head of Chemistry, where you'll play a key role in developing our client's chemistry capabilities, spanning medicinal chemistry, chemical synthesis, and analytical chemistry. This is a unique chance to be an early team member and drive advances in curing chronic conditions related to age.
Qualifications:
- Proven scientific innovation, reflected in publications or similar achievements
- Expertise in medicinal chemistry, including lead optimization, formulation, ADME, PK/PD, and rodent models
- Strong background in organic synthesis, including retrosynthesis and library synthesis
- Proficiency in analytical chemistry, particularly LC-MS
- Ability to advance small molecules to drug candidates with a proven track record of success
- Effective communication with leadership, including the CEO and advisors
- PhD in Chemistry or related field
- Enthusiasm for synthetic biology and AI-driven drug discovery
- Experience with computational library design and access to chemical spaces is a plus
- Rodent handling and biological wet-lab experience is a plus
- Familiarity with computational tools (e.g., Python/RDKit) and software (e.g., DataWarrior) is a plus
Responsibilities:
- Oversee hands-on wet-lab chemistry, including medicinal chemistry, organic synthesis, and analytical tasks
- Drive the synthesis of new chemical compounds
- Develop screening hits into drug candidates, including ADME assays and LC-MS analysis
- Execute and support scientific experiments as needed
