Engineering Technician
Contract: 6-12 months+
Location: Hybrid – 3 days onsite (M, T, Th) in one of the following locations: Saginaw, Lansing, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Flint, Livonia, Royal Oak, Groveland, Howell, or Macomb
The Senior Engineering Technician will have an advanced understanding of utility system design and analysis using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information System (GIS) software.
The Senior Engineering Technician will be expected to design a variety of projects complexities ranging from intermediate to advanced level, and will frequently coordinate with internal departments, contractors, and leadership to ensure compliance and effective management of project tasks.
Responsibilities

- Utilize CAD software for the creation and modification of technical drawings and detailed designs. Incorporate design changes and revisions into existing plans.
- Apply utility design and construction standards to ensure compliance.
- Select appropriate materials and components based on project requirements.
- Analyze and interoperate industry standards, maps, blueprint drawings, details, survey data, sketches, and project scope requirements.
- Plan and consult with internal departments to review project needs, such as specifications, reporting, discuss problems and solutions, task prioritization, coordination, permitting and environmental impacts.
- Understand, apply and recommend department standards, procedures, processes and job aids as related to plans and specifications, maps, images, specialized components, custom reports, cells and related material for projects or other work order application documents.
- May be required to conduct site visits to collect and verify drawing data, and during construction for support, development, and guidance as needed.
- Preparing and updating forms and system application data associated with project work orders.
Skills
- CAD software required, MicroStation V8i or v10, AutoCAD, Open Plant, GIS.
- 4 - 7 Years experience required, 7-10 years preferred
- Possesses the skills to plan, problem solve, and work well in a team environment.
- Knowledge and experience in utility operations.
- Understand and apply regulations, company policies, standards and procedures.
- Ability to solve complex problems; taking new perspectives using existing computer-based solutions.
