Responsibilities:
- Oversee and directly handle all aspects of litigation, including drafting legal documents, conducting discovery, attending hearings, and leading trials or arbitrations.
- Provide competent and ethical legal representation to clients in a range of cases, including those with complex legal or procedural issues and severe to catastrophic implications.
- Communicate regularly with supervisors about client cases, challenges encountered, and overall progress.
- Offer legal opinions to the Claims Department on insurance policy issues and personal injury claims' legal aspects, enhancing decision-making and case strategies.
- Supervise and train other attorneys, fostering a collaborative and knowledgeable legal team.
- Maintain and update litigation support systems to manage caseloads effectively.
- Undertake special assignments and additional functions as required to support the legal department’s goals.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor & member in good standing of California state bar.
- Physically located somewhere in California.
- 3+ years of experience focused on litigation and trials, including preparing pleadings, motions, discovery, and briefs; attending hearings, conferences, interviews, and trials or arbitrations.
- Expertise in insurance defense, particularly with regard to personal injury claims and policy interpretation, demonstrating the ability to provide clear and effective legal opinions to claims departments.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a keen capacity for handling cases with unique legal or procedural issues.
- Ability to work autonomously and initiate action, demonstrating self-direction and the capacity to manage responsibilities without constant supervision.
