Director of Network Operations Center (NOC)

The NOC Director be responsible for establishing and managing the NOC from the ground up. This includes setting up all processes and procedures, hiring and managing a team, and ensuring the operational excellence of network operations. The role involves working closely with senior management, engineers, and project managers to deliver high-quality network solutions and ensure robust network performance.

Focus:
- Build and manage the NOC from scratch, including the development and implementation of processes, procedures, and best practices for network operations.
- Recruit, train, and lead a high-performing NOC team, providing mentorship and ensuring effective team dynamics.
- Ensure the NOC operates efficiently, monitoring network performance, availability, and security, and addressing any issues promptly.
- Define, drive, and manage network projects to enhance performance, availability, and security, including setting objectives, timelines, budgets, and performance standards.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of comprehensive documentation related to network configuration, mapping, processes, and service records.
- Address and resolve complex network issues, providing support for a wide range of customer projects and system issues.
- Establish and enforce policies, procedures, and training plans related to network administration, usage, and disaster recovery.
- Must be available off-hours (should major issues arise).
Skill Set:
- 7+ years of experience in network operations or engineering within an ISP or telecom environment, including a proven track record of building and managing a NOC from the ground up.
- Must have a wide variety of experience establishing and optimizing network monitoring systems (NMS) - e.g. Zabbix, OpenNMS, LibreNMS
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, hire, and lead a team effectively.
- Experience in establishing processes and procedures for a new NOC.
- Deep knowledge of telecom engineering processes, including cabling, fiber optics, and network protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS).
- Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple deadlines and manage complex network projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
- Proficiency in network management tools and documentation practices, with experience in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Project).
