Shifts/Hours: Our RNs work a rotating 12-hour schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage on the floor.
Graduate Nurses must be eligible for State Board Licensure and successfully pass the examination before beginning this role OR ability to start with TPP and must obtain license within 6 months amount of time of beginning position. Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary from the My Nursing Career Ladder based on their individual experience and education.
UPMC McKeesport Unit Descriptions:
3M Oncology- The unit population consists of MedSurg patients as well as hospice patients. The nurse will be expected to provide end-of-life care to ensure the final days of the patient s life are comfortable.
2M Medical Rehab- 2 Mansfield is a rehabilitation nursing unit focusing on the care of patient s adult adolescent through geriatric years who require intensive rehabilitation to reach maximum functional status.4M CDU/Med Surg
4M Surgical Unit- is an observation and inpatient unit focusing on the care of patients, adolescent through geriatric years.
5M Step down- High Acuity-The patient population on the Stepdown unit typically require increased care from MedSurg units, but less than ICU. These patients are critically ill but stable at that time.
Detox- McKeesport detoxification services can consist of medically managed detox or short-term residential rehabilitation. The nurse provides care for either course of action.
Emergency Department- The ED is a non-age-specific unit that provides care for levels of acuity ranging from chest pain or abdominal pain to stroke, gunshot wounds, or stabbings. This is a face-paced unit that requires great focus and time-management.
Psych- Also known as the Behavioral Health Unit, the nurse cares for patients with a new onset of psychiatric symptoms, or an exacerbation of symptoms, requiring inpatient behavioral healthcare. This is a large 37-bed unit.
- The individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below.
- They must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department policy and procedures.
- 0-1 year experience.
- Completion of UPMC student nurse internship or student clinical transitions course at UPMC preferred.
- BSN preferred.
- Basic Arrhythmia Class
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: - NIH Certification will be required within 6 months of hire for the following units: ED, CVU, ICU and 4M.
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
- Must complete licensure examination within SIX MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 6 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.
