The purpose the Automation Manufacturing Engineer role is to drive consistency and improvement in the execution of critical production tasks and processes, as well as the successful manufacturing launch of new products to ensure that the plant can continue to meet all customer needs correctly and on time. Automation Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for driving & implementing Lean tools in production; including but not limited maintaining detailed standard operating procedures, workstation & assembly line design, and
improving quality, cost, and service by utilizing lean and 6-sigma methodologies.
• Responsibility for developing & implementing production standards to ensure safety, quality, and cost targets are achieved in production.
• Actively participate in daily production meetings discussing safety, quality, cost and service; take ownership & responsibility to resolve issues on a daily basis.
• With input from Engineering & Technical resources, develop and continuously improve detailed standard operating procedures for all steps on the production lines.
• Participate in the development of production metrics such as OEE, schedule adherence,
• Lead process development projects from concept to completion.
• Lead and manage a pipeline of process improvement projects adhering to timelines and budgets.
• Participate in cross-functional teams including Engineering, Quality, Production, Purchasing, and Sales and ensure projects are aligned with business strategies and initiatives.
• Responsibility & ownership all elements required to support production, including Kanban setup, workstation & tooling, material flow.
• Responsible for interfacing with internal and/or external technical experts and peers in relation to process improvement and/or quality improvement projects
• Ensure processes are in place to enable the business to ~Double in size from 2021 – 2023 while reducing leadtimes from ~12 weeks to <4-weeks.
• Maintain Bill-of-Materials and Route Details for production items, including managing product updates & engineering changes. Work with Engineering to ensure any production changes flow through associated drawings / specifications.
• Act as the “lean leader” on the assembly line; promote & implement 5S workstation design, work with shopfloor employees to identify & implement process improvement to improve productivity
• Identify and analyze internal Quality Issues & field warranty data to identify production & quality trends, work with Engineering to identify & implement improvements.
• Support & Lead QMS activities for areas of responsibility, run analysis, create reports & lead Root Cause Problem Solving activities on a weekly basis.
• Support & Lead elements of SAP S4 ERP implementation.
• Lead and manage automation projects related to CNC machining and robot welding technology.
• Support and troubleshoot issues arising from CNC machine shop processes and robot welding equipment.
• Mentor and lead CNC and robot welding operators/technicians
• BS Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering required
• Certifications (PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt, Lean Certification, etc.) preferred.
• 3-5 years work experience in a manufacturing / assembly environment
• Deep lean manufacturing expertise including standard work, workstation design, 5S & visual management
• Working knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes
• Must have experience operating in a Quality Management System
• Demonstrated project management effectiveness in manufacturing environments
• Self-starting problem solver able to work under minimal supervision
• Must have strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
• Must be proficient with Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office programs
• History of progressive responsibility preferred
• SAP ERP System knowledge a Strong Plus (BOMs / Routers)
• Knowledge and previous experience with robot welding programming
• Knowledge of CNC programming preferred
