Harken Research is an ISO17025 accredited testing laboratory located in Los Angeles with two core business units: consumer product testing and pharmaceutical contract research. Within the consumer product testing unit dietary supplements, food, and cosmetics are the focus – with additional testing services catering to other industries. Summary
We are seeking an analytical chemist to perform testing of client samples primarily via HPLC, although the position will likely involve analysis by other analytical techniques as well. Additional duties include method development, method validation, and SOP writing. Responsibilities
- Analyze client samples by HPLC and/or LC-MS/MS. Analysis by ICP-MS and/or GC-MS or other appropriate analytical techniques may be within the scope of duties as well.
- Review raw and QA/QC data ensuring it meets established criteria and approve results for reporting.
- Execute method development and validation in accordance with ISO 17025 requirements.
- Submit non-conforming work to the Corrective Action/Preventative Action workflow.
- Work with the Lab Director to prepare and review SOPs and other controlled documentation.
- Work with a team of scientists in a fast-paced environment to design and implement analytical strategies.
- Prepare technical reports.
- Develop and optimize sample processing methods prior to analysis of samples.
- Write scientific SOPs.
- Identify process inefficiencies and suggest solutions.
- Communicate with Lab Director and other team members regarding status of testing and other activities.
Essential Functions
- Working in a stationary position for extended periods of time
- Working on a computer for extended periods of time
- Working in a laboratory for extended periods of time
- Maneuvering objects weighing up to 25 pounds in the course of routine laboratory work
- Communication with employees including laboratory, administrative, and sales personnel; ownership; vendors; contractors; clients; and prospective clients
Qualifications
- Bachelors or Masters degree in relevant field (such as Chemistry or Chemical Engineering) and demonstrated technical proficiency and 5 or more years of experience working in a laboratory, or PhD in relevant field and 2 or more years of experience working in a laboratory
- Experience and technical proficiency with one or more of the following: ICP-MS, GC-MS, GCMS/MS, LC-MS/MS, and/or HPLC
- Experience in a testing laboratory
- Experience writing SOPs
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a regulated environment (ISO 17025, GLP, or GMP)
- Experience with analytical method development and validation
