Position Summary :
We are seeking an experienced board-certified Molecular Pathologist to join its' state of the art molecular laboratory in the Northeast. Fellowship training in molecular pathology is required. Duties & Responsibilities :
- Provide clinical evaluation and interpretation of NGS sequencing data for the disease-specific multi-gene panel report generation.
- Assist in providing oversight of quality management system to ensure conformance with NYSDOH Clinical Laboratory Practice Standards and/or other regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all work performed in the molecular laboratory generates medically reliable data.
- Provide professional expertise in new molecular genomic and genetic test development.
- Serve as an educational and operational resource to the staff.
- Be involved in competency assessment, and whenever necessary, remedial training or continuing education to improve skills.
- Promote a safe laboratory environment for personnel.
- Ensuring that the laboratory participates in monitoring and evaluating the quality control metrics and appropriateness of services rendered, within the context of the Quality Management System.
- Communicating with the referring physicians regarding the clinical significance of the laboratory findings and ensuring that the reports of results include pertinent information required for specific patient interpretation and management.
- Ensuring that the laboratory is enrolled in the NYSDOH proficiency-testing program for the testing performed and that the laboratory adheres to the program's administrative and technical requirements.
- Maintaining an effective working relationship with applicable accrediting and regulatory agencies, administrative offices and the medical community.
- Evaluating not only NGS sequencing results, but also other results generated by PCR, RT-PCR, Sanger assays and other available platforms.
- Conducting pathology review including H&E, and IHC for both research and clinical specimens, and reviewing pathology reports associated with the patient's molecular profiling to capture the pertinent clinical information.
- Engage in new test development and lab innovation activities.
- Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams focused on answering key biological questions.
- Establishing and maintaining CLIA/CAP compliance important in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Keeping up to date with clinical knowledge in the field of molecular pathology, but also with the regulatory needs and/or changes.
Qualifications :
- An MD with certification by the American Board of Pathology in Clinical and/or Anatomic Pathology and Molecular Genetic Pathology with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- The candidate must meet all state and local licensing requirements
- Clinical experience with next generation sequencing (NGS) assays and interpretation of their results.
- Detailed knowledge and experience in oncology, cancer immunotherapy, medical immunology and clinical research, is preferred.
- Excellent managerial, organizational, reporting and communication skills.
- Experience working in a regulated clinical laboratory environment (CLIA/CAP/NYSDOH).
- Working knowledge of State and Federal regulations governing laboratories.
- Understanding and assistance in quality control / quality improvement programs / report generation.
- Working knowledge and understanding of computers. Knowledge of all departmental policies and procedures.
