Position Overview:
As a Construction Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing precise and competitive estimates for a variety of high-rise and commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in estimating for commercial and high-rise developments, a strong analytical mindset, and the ability to work closely with project managers, clients, and subcontractors. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accurate financial planning and success of major construction ventures in Jersey City and the surrounding Hudson County area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for high-rise residential projects, commercial spaces, and infrastructure developments, ensuring competitiveness and profitability.
- Bid Preparation: Develop comprehensive bid proposals that include scope of work, materials, labor, and timelines, aligned with project goals and client expectations.
- Project Analysis: Analyze architectural drawings, specifications, and project requirements to produce precise quantity take-offs and material lists.
- Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate bids from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring that costs are competitive and align with project specifications.
- Client Collaboration: Work with clients, architects, and engineers to understand project needs, provide cost options, and suggest value engineering solutions.
- Budget Management: Assist in the development and management of project budgets, ensuring estimates reflect accurate costs and financial objectives.
- Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, local market conditions, and material costs to ensure estimates are current and competitive.
- Document Management: Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, and related documents for accurate project tracking and future reference.
Types of Projects:
- High-Rise Residential Buildings: Estimating for multi-story residential towers, including luxury and affordable housing.
- Commercial Spaces: Cost estimation for office buildings, retail spaces, and mixed-use developments.
- Infrastructure Projects: Estimating for related infrastructure work such as parking structures, public spaces, and utility installations.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in construction estimating for high-rise and commercial projects.
- Education: A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent experience will be considered.
- Skills: Strong analytical, mathematical, and communication skills with a solid understanding of high-rise and commercial construction methods and materials.
- Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of local building codes, zoning regulations, and construction practices in Jersey City and Hudson County.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift) and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Certifications: Relevant certifications such as ASPE or LEED are advantageous.
