Our client, a national union with headquarters in Jamaica, Queens, is seeking a paralegal to support its in-house counsel. The paralegal will work with and support the in-house counsel on administrative, labor, and employment projects. The role will be in the office from 9am-5pm during the temporary period and will transition to a hybrid schedule once converted to a salaried position. This opportunity can offer $33-$35/hour and will convert between $65k-$75k depending on experience.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, edit, and proofread collective bargaining agreements in preparation for upcoming negotiations and after negotiations have been completed.
- Conduct legal research as requested by the In-House Counsel and other employees of the organization.
- Under the direction of in-house counsel, keep abreast of new laws and regulations to ensure that the organization is in compliance.
- Draft and/or modify written correspondence on behalf of various entities of the organization.
- File arbitrations, charges, and petitions with the appropriate entity accurately and timely.
- Case management and follow-up.
- Other departmental tasks and special projects as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent degree/certificate program in Paralegal Studies)
- Paralegal experience of at least 1-2+ years
- Labor and employment experience of at least 1-2+ years.
- The ability to draft contracts and legal correspondence.
- The ability to conduct legal research using LexisNexis and other databases.
- The ability to interpret case law and contract provisions when necessary.
- Working knowledge of labor unions, related laws, and regulations.
- Professional appearance and strong, positive work ethic.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong time-management skills, including the ability to work outside of normal business hours when necessary, on a limited basis.
