Description:
Inman Solar is seeking a motivated individual for the position of Civil Design Engineer. Working as an
integral part of a knowledgeable and experienced team, the candidate will be involved in all civil-related
aspects of solar project design and engineering and will see projects from conceptual design to final
completion. The candidate will be responsible for performing and managing internal and external
resources for engineering and design for efficient and practical PV systems and communicating the
design effectively to the construction team, customer, and senior management. The Civil Design
Engineer will be responsible for creating grading models, staking plans, and landscaping plans based on
value engineering and compliance with industry standards as well as customer specifications. The role
will require a strong understanding of the civil and mechanical considerations of PV systems. High level
project management and communication skills will be valuable to ensure a quality project is delivered
on time and on budget.
Qualifications:
Educational background or industry experience in civil or mechanical engineering
AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience preferred; CAD expertise required
Microsoft Excel proficiency
Interest in sustainability and solar energy
High level of attention to detail, time management, and organization
Good communication skills
Proven experience with multi-disciplinary engineering
Responsibilities:
Execute the design of PV systems and produce construction quality drawings (physical layout,
civil design, installation details, etc.).
Utilize Civil 3D software to create functional and efficient grading models for PV systems.
Create staking plans for surveyors to mark important civil and electrical layout features to
communicate design to on-site installers.
Conduct on-site evaluations of civil work to assess progress, quality, and adherence to design
specifications.
Prepare tree clearing and grubbing plans to ensure efficient site preparation.
Review third-party civil engineering documents for accuracy and compliance with project
requirements.
Create and improve existing optimization tools to assist system design.
Collaborate with internal teams—including project managers, engineers, and construction
personnel—to ensure seamless project execution.
Stay updated on industry best practices, regulations, and advancements in civil engineering
technology.
To be successful in the position of Civil Design Engineer, the candidate will be tasked with taking initial
designs and enhancing them through iterative processes to achieve a comprehensive, value-engineered
design that is optimized for customer value. This entails overseeing the entire design lifecycle, from
conception to finalization, and ensuring that each iteration reflects the highest standards of quality,
efficiency, and innovation. The Civil Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving the evolution of
project designs, leveraging his/her expertise to identify areas for improvement, streamline processes,
and incorporate feedback from stakeholders to deliver results. Through effective leadership,
collaboration, and strategic decision-making, the Civil Design Engineer will contribute to the successful
execution of projects and the continued growth and success of the organization.
