Data Analyst/Manager
BVARI seeks a Data Analyst/Manager to develop, organize, and analyze data resources and systems for a study at the VA Boston Healthcare System focusing on the genetics of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and to optimize the detection of individuals who have been diagnosed with dementia from data in the electronic medical records. The position will be part of a research group consisting of biomedical researchers, clinicians, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, data analysts/programmers, project coordinators, and informatics team with academic affiliations to Boston University. Candidates should have a service-oriented mentality, high sense of ownership of the assigned tasks and ability to solve problems presented by data.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the Data Analyst will work closely with statistical programmers, and biostatisticians to identify patient cohorts required for analysis, ensure analysis results are delivered in a timely manner and meet quality standards. Specifically, the Data Manager will be responsible for:
- Preparing datasets for analyses and gather study data requirements, pull all necessary data, and perform data cleaning, and aggregation/synthesis as appropriate.
- Assist with performing quality control and identify process improvements.
- Work with data management team and other data analysts/programmers to design, create and deliver analytical databases, reports, and analyses.
- Perform validation of programs and databases to fulfill specifications and ensure integrity of outcomes.
- Develop standard and custom research reports (SQL-SSRS) to meet the needs of the program.
- Serve as the program expert on EHR requirements, data structure of OMOP records, data quality, and system architecture.
- Aid in manuscript preparation, report development, and presentations.
- Establish and maintain communication with fellow teammates to keep them updated on the status of their requests.
- Ability to manage time across multiple research projects.
- Ability to work both independently and within a team.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree, preferably in public health domain, statistics, biostatistics, or computer science with relevant skills, or other science degree with ≥ 2 years of data management or analysis experience
- Experience in working with big data and capable of working independently in preparing datasets, writing analytic plans, performing analyses and writing reports to facilitate research decision-making.
- Ability to program in SQL using MS-SQL or MySQL, ability to developing SQL from a query and reporting standpoint.
- Solid statistical programming skills using programs like R, SAS, MySQL.
- Assignments related to this position may require modification of standard data analysis practices, and the development of new approaches, methods or techniques for specific applications.
- Working knowledge of statistical analysis or data analysis.
- Excellent attention to detail, logic, and organizational skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- Experience in genetic or genomic data analysis/management a plus.
- Understanding of the healthcare domain, clinical, and epidemiologic data is a plus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Travel
No travel is expected for this position.
