Overview:
Norman Regional EMSSTAT operates 24/7 to provide pre-hospital stabilization and life-saving care on 30,000+ responses each year. We work alongside our medical directors, physicians, and nurses in our four Emergency Departments. We respond to all 911 medical and trauma emergencies, inter-facility transports, event standbys, collaborate with our Centers for Excellence on STEMI and stroke care, and partner with our public safety agencies to provide a wide range of EMS response capabilities in Moore, Norman, and surrounding areas. EMSSTAT has specialized teams such as SWAT Medics, a very active bike team, and our regional disaster medical response team (DMRT) which houses a large response trailer.
Responsibilities:
- For EMTs enrolled in paramedic school, provides routine and emergency medical care, extrication, and transportation of ill and injured persons.
- Assists Paramedic with patient assessment and the delivery of appropriate medical treatment.
- Maintains equipment, vehicles, and stations in sanitary and working order.
Qualifications:
Education
- Provide documentation of enrollment into first semester of a state-approved paramedic program within 3 months of hire into this position.
- The extern must have documentation from the school of succesful completion of the first semester of paramedic school within 6 months of hire into this position.
- Failure to provide proof of enrollment upon hire, failure to successfully complete the first semester within 6 months, or dropping out of paramedic school will result in the Paramedic Extern I being removed from this position.
Experience
- EMT experience preferred.
(Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combinatiion of education and experience).
Licensure / Certification
- Must be at least 21 years of age in order to be insured by NRHS carrier.
- Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
- Must remain insurable by the NRHS/EMSSTAT vehicle insurance company by maintaining a good driving record and meeting any other requirement as set forth in the policy.
- Current Oklahoma license as an EMT or Advanced EMT.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training required during orientation.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained through the American Heart Association RQI program for duration of employment.
Other Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) Modules 100, 200, and 700 preferred but must be completed prior to the end of departmental orientation. Haz Mat Operations regarded favorably. Previous experience in emergency vehicle operations is preferred.
