The Mainframe Database Administrator (DBA) leads the planning, analysis, design, implementation, maintenance, and control of the organization's mainframe databases. The Mainframe DBA consults with and advises senior management and multiple clients on high impact data or database management issues, influencing strategic direction. Handles and leads various large-scale or highly complex data/database management activities including one or more of the following: designing highly complex logical and/or physical databases; leading highly complex data modeling, mapping, integration, and capacity planning efforts; developing management policies, procedures and standards; and business requirements identification, analysis and development. Provides mentoring, guidance and general oversight to less experienced staff in a variety of database design, administration and/or modeling activities. As a DBA administrator, you will be responsible for administering, testing, and implementing databases, applying knowledge of database management systems.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Support development teams with technical and physical design, development, and maintenance of z/OS DB2 databases; including data analysis and modeling, programming, implementation, performance monitoring, tuning, cloning/refreshing, planning, problem resolution, and data dictionary administration.
- Install, upgrade, and patch database software, agents, utilities, and options.
- Collaborate with development teams on use of standard practices for the design and implementation of databases to meet user application requirements.
- Maintain test tools for managing data base objects and diagnosing problems. Evaluate and test new versions, as well as third party vendor utilities and reporting tools.
- Execute test and audit strategies for backup, security, and disaster recovery of Databases and other systems. Position requires 24/7 support rotation for oncall support.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science Engineering, computer information systems, management information systems, or a closely related field
Required Skills:
- Experience must include creating/evaluating/documenting logical and physical data models, developing stored procedures/triggers/scripts/SQL and optimizing/tuning SQL in production and development/test environments.
- 7 years' experience in logical design and physical design.
- Experience with data modeling using ERSTUDIO.
- 7 years demonstrated experience leading efficiency improvements and implementation of DB policies and procedures.
- 7 years experience in DB2 z/OS database administration tasks including database object creation, security, performance tuning, utilities, and backup and recovery.
- MAINFRAME SKILLS DESIRED: 3 years application design and 3 years COBOL, DB2, SQL, and JCL programming experience. 3 years experience with CA DB2 Tools. 3 years of VSAM File structure processing. 3 years of TSO/ISPF/SDSF or equivalent products. One year can be supplemented with an equivalent editor.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office; specifically Excel, Word, or related products. CICS, SAS, Syncsort, IBM Utilities, Easytrieve. Strong Knowledge of Agile methodology. Strong Proactively collaborate with team members to design and implement elegant technical solutions.
- Testing programs or databases, correcting errors, and making necessary modifications. Modifying existing databases and database management systems or directing programmers and analysts to make changes. Planning, coordinating, and implementing security measures to safeguard information in computer files against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification, or disclosure. Working as part of an IT project team to coordinate database development and determine project scope and limitations. Writing and coding logical and physical database descriptions and specifying identifiers of database to management system or directing others in coding descriptions.
