We’re looking for a talented Designer to handle a kids' activewear line for a leading brand under the leadership of the Senior Designer. This will have a strong focus on the boys 8-18 size range as will as the baby/toddler size range. The ideal candidate is a team player with strong knowledge of the childrenswear market who is highly organized with excellent attention to detail and can be flexible in a fast-paced working environment.
Responsibilities
- Develop concepts and execute all stages of design from initial concept through bulk production
- Continuously research concept, color, mood, & styling through magazine, forecasting, and trend services. Shop stores, develop and adjust ideas to fit specific brand/market in accordance with the design calendar.
- Create impactful and strategic Mood Boards for Color concepts and Design Direction
- In partnership with the Senior Designer, execute overall tone of the product line by interpreting trends obtained through market shopping and trend forecasting services as it relates to market demand and brand image.
- Design silhouettes based on the overall design direction and Merchandising plan
- Sketch and Color up Styles on Adobe Illustrator to create CADs based on final color palettes
- Develop tech packs for costing/sampling and production using PLM
- Track development and Production samples with accuracy and efficiency
- Ensure clear communication on project status and deadlines with Sr Designer as well as cross functional teams: Technical Design, Graphics, PD, Sales, and Production teams
- Ensure that the design inspiration is set on a timely basis to present to Licensing/retail partners and incorporate feedback onto the development of the line
- Review/hand-off designs & fabrics with production for preliminary costing
- Partner with the graphics team to ensure that all graphics incorporate the seasonal direction, and are cohesive to the spirit of the specific brand
- Develop SKU plans in conjunction with Merchandising and Sales
- Ensure that sampling of collections at all stages of development are in line with merchandising plan
- Work directly with, as well as communicate through e-mail with overseas offices and in-house production staff
- Ensure that trim development is done in a timely manner, so that it is presented and approved in time for sample development
- Set up initial and final master line sheets prior to starting production
- In partnership with the Senior Designer, evaluate and resolve development and production issues that affect the aesthetic of the product
- Attend fittings and review product to execute the vision of the collections
Qualifications
- BA in Apparel Design
- 5+ years of apparel design experience
- Strong proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM (or similar product management system, & Microsoft Office, knowledge of CLO a plus
- Must have knowledge in childrenswear (Boys 8-18 and/or Baby/Toddler range a plus)
- Activewear knowledge preferred
- Licensed product knowledge a plus
- Must be highly organized with a keen attention to detail
- Strong ability to multitask
- Experience designing for mass retailers a plus
- Must have strong communication skills with some presentation experience preferred
- Eager to learn and thrive in a fast paced environment
- A great team player with collaborative attitude, who is flexible and has a “can” do attitude
Annual salary range starting at $75,000
