Research Coastal Engineer Position – Junior
- Experience with or willingness to learn coastal structure responses, coastal flooding and surge, and wave hydrodynamics is preferred. This includes probabilities and statistics for interpreting coastal structure responses.
- Experience applying coastal structure response physics is preferred. This includes applying coastal structure response empirical equations and associated uncertainties, understanding physics within each equation, and interpreting and comparing alternative equations. Familiar with the Coastal Engineering Manual (CEM) and EurOtop manual.
- Candidate should have skills or willingness to learn foundational concepts of coastal physics and coastal storm probabilities and statistics including frequency analyses and stochastic methods.
- Experience and/or willingness to cross interdisciplinary specialties in the areas of: coastal structure responses, coastal storm hazards, civil engineering, programming, probability and statistics, machine learning, database management, and technical writing.
- Programing and software development skills: proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python is required.
- Ability to convey results concisely to teammates and CHL staff through written communication and presentations.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or mathematics.
- Related job titles include: Research Civil/Coastal/Risk Engineer or Research Physical Scientist
- Technical tasks consist of performing probabilistic coastal hazard analysis, probabilistic coastal structure response analysis, stochastic simulations, probabilistic modeling, technical writing, and communication.
For consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen.
