We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Project Manager to join a Satellite Communications company. This role offers a unique chance to oversee satellite mechanical subsystems across both research and development (non-recurring) and ongoing (recurring/sustaining) efforts. Responsibilities include engineering, design, analysis, assembly, and testing.
The ideal candidate will be innovative, challenge conventional methods, and demonstrate strong teamwork skills while leading small teams and managing individual assignments.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the project management of mechanical subsystems for flight and ground support equipment.
- Lead project delivery, including prioritization of components, scheduling, milestone setting, and ensuring critical path deliveries.
- Develop a clear sequence for releasing component details to optimize procurement (raw materials, 3D models, 2D manufacturing drawings).
- Monitor and report project metrics regularly.
- Negotiate time, scope, and resource allocation with managers to ensure timely completion of tasks.
- Provide regular status updates to leadership regarding scope, schedule, and budget.
- Identify and manage project risks and issues, escalating when necessary.
- Ensure timely completion of all project documentation, including reviews and approvals.
Deliverables:
- Project schedule for mechanical subsystems and ground support equipment.
- Assignment of hours and resources in collaboration with the department head.
- Tracking project completion percentages.
- Maintain a drawing release plan.
- Weekly status reports and ad-hoc meetings.
- Material delivery tracking for BOM completion.
- Project metrics for scheduling, resources, and procurement status.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in space-related projects.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
